Eldlich / Zombie / fish / Ancient Warriors

What made you choose this deck for the tournament, and what were your tech choices?
Eldlich is the best deck. It’s a format warping archetype, and I feel like every deck without Eldlich was at a disadvantage. I chose to play an Ancient Warriors engine and the Buzzsaw Shark engine to summon Rank 4 Xyz monsters like Lavalval Chain and Traptrix Rafflesia. Uni-zombie and the ghost girl hand traps allowed me to synchro summon PSY-Framelord Omega or pop off into Ultimaya Tzolkin plays. Verte Anaconda allowed me to send Fusion Destiny from deck to summon Destiny Hero Dystopia, essentially a 3800 drident with potential 2 draws.
Would you make any changes to the deck?
Not really, every engine complimented each other well. Compared to my last month YTC win, I swapped out the Burning Abyss Dark Spirit engine for the Buzzsaw Engine because it was much more consistent and powerful to go into a rank 4 instead of ba/dark spirit looping.
How did your matchups throughout Swiss and Top 8 go?
Easy win against D/D/D’s unfortunately for Ejeffers. Very close games against Grimm and Shameless however.

Do you have a favorite play of the tournament?

Literally winning the entire YTC by calling heads correctly with Fiend Comedian.

Moving forward, what cards do you think should be banned or restricted, if any?

Eldlich the Golden Lord is obviously getting banned. Fusion Destiny, 1 card fusion summon from deck for a 3800 beatstick that pops any card, should definitely get banned too. 1 card engines like Ancient Warrior - Masterful Sun Mou, Buzzsaw Shark, and Tour Guide of the Underworld should get limited to half point. ABC should get hit, most likely Union Driver since that allows you to get off an easy link summon or rank 4 with the ABC pieces.

2nd Place Shameless
Unchained / Fiend / Eldlich

What made you choose this deck for the tournament, and what were your tech choices?
This format is centered around the use, or anti-use, of Golden Lord. Lord is simply the go-to engine, and everything else around it that's high-risk, high-reward simply becomes much harder to stop since the near-infinite looping often draws all the outs that would usually stop such plays. Malice loops become impossible to stop once crow/called are wasted on lord loops. Fusion combos become a nightmare once ash is used to prevent lord summons.
Would you make any changes to the deck?
My deck? No. I like my 55 card shuffle. You don't need anything more.
How did your matchups throughout Swiss and Top 4 go?
I 2-0'd every person I came across, except for three duels.
First one I lost was against folo's pends, where I played like a complete moron and made an endless amount of mistakes that ended up costing me the match.
Second one I lost was against Lab's machine lord goodstuff, and I lost to an unintentional OTK. If that didn't happen, I certainly would've had game due to overwhelming advantage generation.
Third game I lost because of joey magic.

Do you have a favorite play of the tournament?

Getting roflstomped by joey-tier antics was certainly the best. Losing the duel to a physical coinflip was peak trinity.

Moving forward, what cards do you think should be banned or restricted, if any?

Golden lord needs to be banned. Bahamut needs to be banned. Malice needs to be banned. These loops and antics lead to a lot of non-interactive gameplay that's simply not all that fun to be around--be you playing it, or not.

Top 4 Lt. Labcoat
Train / ABC / Eldlich

What made you choose this deck for the tournament, and what were your tech choices?
Trains (or maybe, at this point, Earth Machine) is my favourite archetype, and the new Machina support is really strong. So I played four Earth Machine archetypes in one! Tech choices are ABC and Eldlich. The former also got new support and is hecking strong, and the latter was for Rank 10 dreams that never happened. Mathmech Sigma was there too. He doesn't get results, but I keep being so optimistic about him.
Would you make any changes to the deck?
I'd like to put in Goldilocks The Battle Landscaper. Not because it's necessarily good, but it's just such a damn fun card! Spending a Trinity on Conquistador wasn't the smartest move, I think.
...Or, actually, I should re-investigate adding Orcust. Turns out that Girisu does a whole lot more than what I was expecting.
How did your matchups throughout Swiss and Top 4 go?
Went 6-0 in Swiss, then lost in a rematch in Top 4. Ho hum. Eldlich giveth, Eldlich taketh away.

Do you have a favorite play of the tournament?

Accidentally doing precise damage with Ravenous Tarantula. For some reason, I can never get the maths right on it. I just threw it out as a Hail Mary, but it ended up working out.

Moving forward, what cards do you think should be banned or restricted, if any?

Eldlich was a mistake. ...I mean, to be fair, it was pretty unexpected that it would be actually good. People got into the habit of assuming any new Deck Build Pack archetype is pretty crap until it gets more support. And not for next month, because of how banlists work, but Union Carrier really needs some hit. It's just way too good at making ABC.

Top 4 Grimm
Cyber Dragon / ABC / Eldlich

What made you choose this deck for the tournament, and what were your tech choices?
Nothing in particular. I'm pretty sure everyone in the server thinks of me as the weird Cyber Dragon guy, that's my favorite deck and I keep trying to update it to a viable level throughout the format's evolution. The techs in this were the Herz trinity that offers infinite discard fodder (for something like Buster Dragon or Factory of More Production) Marrella and Leanchoillia to kickstart and salvage the Eldlich engine respectively and finally Cloak and Dagger and Deep Dark Trap Hole to hit the enemy's Golden Lord.
Would you make any changes to the deck?
The deck itself was made in 20 minutes or so since i decided to play in the YTC on a whim and the changes that should be made are probably too numerous to list. Off the top of my head, I'd probably cut Arcjet Lightcraft and its two xyz and double down on the Eldlich cards with a trinity or two. Would definitely also cut the two cores in this specific variation of the deck. I won't comment on the Side Deck since i feel it completely missed the mark (besides the anti Eldlich stuff). I feel like the deck as a whole lacked removal (struggled vs Rafflesia for example)
How did your matchups throughout Swiss and Top 4 go?
The matchups themselves went as expected. I lost to Labcoat and TamamoBall with Eldlich Machines and Eldlich respectively in the Swiss, and then vs TamamoBall again in the second game of the top cut. The first two losses were very close games and I'd say they could go either way (especially vs Labcoat) but vs Tamamo in the top cut i bricked game 1 and got blown out game 2 so not exactly a good showing. I'd say the deck is ok, but it definitely had blind spots. Probably the runt of the litter as far as Eldlich decks are concerned.

Do you have a favorite play of the tournament?

Getting to win the first round of the top cut with Chimeratech Overdragon. It's always nice to showcase some nice plays with Cyber Dragons, especially since they aren't as popular in the community as a deck compared to other archetypes.

Moving forward, what cards do you think should be banned or restricted, if any?

I feel like Bahamut ban and Golden Lord bans are the ones that stand out to me. And maybe Union Driver. That's it as far as meta related cards are concerned, though I'm certain there are other hits I'm missing. I'm sure they'll come up when it's time for a banlist.

Top 8 Ejeffers
D/D/D

What made you choose this deck for the tournament, and what were your tech choices?
I played D/D/D, just because it is one of my personal favorite decks that I think is more viable than people give it credit. I did the same last month with Crickets, placing second.
Would you make any changes to the deck?
The major change I would make to my deck is that Go! D/D/D Divine Zero King Rage should have been legal this month and will be going forward, the card is amazing for the deck, fulfilling the same role as D/D Savant Thomas while also being a game-ending option. The only other changes I would make are in my sidedeck, dependent on the results of the upcoming banlist and the predicted metagame resulting.
How did your matchups throughout Swiss and Top 4 go?
D/D/D matchups are simple, regardless of the opponent, the goal is to setup going first, then OTK on the third turn. Obviously this doesn't always work out as planned, and when it fails D/D/D transitions into a resource based grind using Savant Kepler and Savant Thomas. The primary matchup that is difficult for D/D/D is unfortunately the meta deck of this cup, Eldlich; The fact that Eldlich's hand effect is non-destruction means that it circumvents D/D/D Abyss King Gilgamesh's float, providing the opponent an easy out to the deck's main setup. Additionally, a freshly summoned Eldlich has attack tied with even D/D/D's biggest bunguses, and can just crash into my bosses by battle.

Do you have a favorite play of the tournament?

My favorite play of the tournament had to be any time that summoning D/D/D Super Doom King Bright Armageddon simply won me the game. A 3500 attack monster that grants blanket targeting protection is quite hard to deal with in Trinity.

Moving forward, what cards do you think should be banned or restricted, if any?

I've always taken a pretty conservative stance on the banlist, generally opposing changes. But two consecutive top cut losses to Anju have helped me to realize that both Eldlich the Golden Lord and Fusion Destiny are badly out of line, and something should be done about both.

Top 8 Cinosrepus
Fiend / Fish / ABC / Eldlich

What made you choose this deck for the tournament, and what were your tech choices?
I choose it because Eldlich wasn't banned. Tech choices: D prison, fiend griefing, Called, DD Crow, ABC. Trying to win the Eld mirror. Diamond Dust in the side for water.
Would you make any changes to the deck?
I'd probably make it more like Shameless's deck since he has more experience with Eldlich. I didn't really know the combos.
How did your matchups throughout Swiss and Top 4 go?
I lost to Eldlich decks in Swiss, and lost to Labcoat early in Top 8. Not really much I could do.

Do you have a favorite play of the tournament?

I don't remember. I think I summoned ABC against Wtrain near the end though.

Moving forward, what cards do you think should be banned or restricted, if any?

I actually have a huge list but right now the top contenders are Buzzsaw ban, a hit to ABC, a hit to Union Carrier, and Dynatag ban.

Top 8 Impy
Orcust / Phantom Knight

What made you choose this deck for the tournament, and what were your tech choices?
I chose this deck last minute; I wanted to play a deck that had a high impact 1 card combo that wasn't eldlich and could also play the grind game with eldlich.
Would you make any changes to the deck?
I would change a lot about the side deck. I felt my side deck was to geared towards going first vs Eldlich. I would cut Ally of Justice Quarantine, Dimension Fortress Weapon, Ties, and Left Arm.
How did your matchups throughout Swiss and Top 4 go?
I had a pretty hard time keeping up with Ancient Warriors/ Buzzsaw shark decks (I lost one of my games to it) and the Eldlich match up was fine as long as I went first or opened a hand trap. All the other tier 1.5/2 decks I could deal with easily due to blow out cards like Topologic Trisbaena and Accesscode Talker.

Do you have a favorite play of the tournament?

My favorite play of the tournament was in my 4th game. It was me vs Pot of brick game 2, I was up one game and his board was a set Whitebeard, the Plunder Patroll Helm + Plunder Patroll Shipyarrrd and he was at 5800Lp. My board was Knightmare Unicorn + The Phantom Knights of Tomb Shield + Girsu, the Orcust Mekk-Knight and for turn I drew Orcust Knightmare. I knew that I needed to find a way to otk him this turn or he might be able to make the XYZ plunder and start to banish my board. I knew I would have to get rid of white beard and then play through a Goldenhair, but I couldn't have seen a way to get game on board through 2 monsters. So in my head i thought I'll just out the field spell and hope to draw an out. So i linked off the trap and girsu into phonix, pitch knightmare, and pop his field spell, and because phonix was co-linked I drew into scrap Scrap Recycler. Then I realized Unicon + Phonix = 5300 Attack code talker with 2 pops and I had scrap + Orcust Knightmare to make up the rest of the damage.

Moving forward, what cards do you think should be banned or restricted, if any?

Ban: Eldlich the Golden Lord (took up 5/8 top cut slots), Bahamut Shark (Buzzsaw sharks lets you make toad in 3 summons with 1 card), and Dark Spirit of Malice (Loops way to well with Unchained Soul and Curse Necrofear).

Half: Ancient Warriors - Masterful Sun Mou (In multiple copies it's very powerful and acts as a rota for all of the Archetypes).

Top 8 Burrito
Trickstar / Kaiju

What made you choose this deck for the tournament, and what were your tech choices?
I ended up choosing to play this deck because I played it once during a locals, and to my surprise, it ended up performing quite well, albeit I was running a number of meme cards like Mecha Bunny and Giant Germ. The deck’s main premise was having Kaijus as unrespondable removal, with a number of different cards to take advantage of them like Graydles, Relinquished Anima and Compulsory Evacuation Device, while having Trickstars and other aggressive/burn cards to allow me to push for game. I’d say that the Kaijus themselves were the “tech” choice, because with how the meta was focusing on bosses with interruption like ABC Buster Dragon, Toadally Awesome and Destiny HERO Dystopia, being able to remove them before they’re able to have an impact on the duel was enticing.
Would you make any changes to the deck?
Overall, I’d look to remove some of the bad/meme cards. Marshmacron was awesome g1, but afterwards, it would only resolve if your opponent wasn’t paying attention. I would also look to drop Magic Cylinder since I never drew it and always sided it out. Ancient Warriors – Ambitious Cao De was also a cool idea since I was running a number of level 8 monsters like Kaijus and Kongreat with Trade-In, but I’d drop him in the future. In exchange, I would look to increase the decksize to 45 with the inclusion of cards like the Fusion Destiny engine, Change of Heart, Juragedo and Torrential Tribute.
How did your matchups throughout Swiss and Top 4 go?
The matchups were overall fine. Nothing too interesting occurred and I didn’t achieve any upsets, simply because that I unfortunately super bricked every time I played vs a meta deck, be it playing 3 games with only Kaijus, Graydles and Marshmacron, or playing 2 games while opening 5 monsters and 0 backrow.

Do you have a favorite play of the tournament?

I think my favorite “play” was during game 2 vs Lt.Labcoat, where I won the duel by burning him for exactly game with Ring of Destruction.

Moving forward, what cards do you think should be banned or restricted, if any?

Overall, I would unfortunately back the Emergency Banning of Eldlich the Golden Lord, simply because that ever since its release, its won every YTC. I would also back Ancient Warriors – Masterful Sun Mou to 1 Point, because even though he becomes an issue with multiple copies, his effects and splashability justify being put to 1 Point. Bahamut Shark should be banned because of turn 1 Toadally Awesome, and Predaplant Verte Anaconda should be banned because it allows the player to access deck fusions with any 2 monsters and a way to make it in 2 summons.
